Jeannie advises on a range of corporate, commercial and competition law matters.
Prior to joining Dawson Harford & Partners, Jeannie worked:
- as a Judge’s Clerk at the Court of Appeal, to the Honourable Justice Chambers;
- as Legal Counsel at the Commerce Commission, New Zealand’s competition/anti-trust regulator, where she gained significant experience in competition law issues, including investigations, prosecutions, and policy development in both Commerce Act and Fair Trading Act matters.
Jeannie also has a high command of Spanish and Japanese.
Examples of significant transactions:
- Advised the Commerce Commission on its largest international cartel investigation to date, including advising on the Commission’s use of statutory powers, applying for and executing search warrants, reviewing documents for privilege, advising on and facilitating information sharing between international competition authorities, identifying causes of action, and negotiating agreements under the Commission’s Leniency and Co-operation Policies.
- Assisted the Commerce Commission in preparing litigation against Telecom, alleging misuse of market power under section 36 of the Commerce Act, in relation to Telecom’s 0867 dial-up package and the provision of data-tails.
- Advised the Commerce Commission on various Fair Trading Act investigations and prosecutions, including proceedings against Telecom Mobile Limited for misleading customers as to their rights under the Door to Door Sales Act in relation to a direct marketing campaign for the 027 mobile phone network.
- Assisting Ngāti Tuwharetoa Ki Kawerau in commercial matters arising from its Treaty of Waitangi settlement with the Crown.
